After 45 years, members of the 1969 men's basketball team gathered to meet with their former coach for a golf and boating retreat in Bonita Springs Florida. This is the fourth year the group has been gathering.

In 2010, University of Dubuque "Hall of Famers" Bob Finnegan (C'70), Gary Grimm (C'70), and John Smith (C'69) along with Gary Peckham (C'71) began this winter retreat. This has now grown to include Bill Burnette (C'70),  Jerry Mac (Gerald McAleece) (C’70), Skip (Alden) Denham (C'69), Pat Melloy (C'74), Darryl Discher (C'70), former professor and Assistant Coach Doc (Roger) Woods, and Coach Jon Davison (C'61).

Smith says, "This gathering has been a wonderful time to get together for not only golf and boating but hours of stories and memories of our times at the U of D.  We are also getting the opportunity to meet the extended families of our team which has been wonderful."

Two of the wives participating in the trip are very familiar with the team because they were cheerleaders when the men played. Mary Jo Ashland Finnegan (C'70) and Elizabeth "Buffy" Loats Peckham (C'72) joined in at dinner with other spouses in the area.

"We are excited about the success of the current basketball team and hope they are forming relationships that will last for many years to come as ours has," explains Smith.
